School Lunch on Tuesdays: Let's Taco 'bout It

Today is Tuesday, November 7th, and I am being treated to a monthly Lewisburg Area High School delicacy, the soft taco. As I get into line the anticipation is killing me. This meal is renowned for its balance, where all flavors get representation.

I choose my beverage and sides carefully as to not spoil my meal. I get water and applesauce, the latter of which I don’t consume until after the meal. The toppings bar means that the possible flavor combinations are limitless, a kindness by the lunch ladies that keeps this meal fresh and innovative. I chose to complement my tacos with lettuce and tomato. I’m a simple man and don’t require sauce or sour cream. I return to my seat with my good friends. I’m ready to dig in, but before I do that, I must do my favorite part: construct the tacos.

I take my fork and partition my ingredients equally, adding the ingredients to the tacos one at a time, to prevent them from getting soggy. There’s nothing I hate more than a soggy taco. My first bite is absolute bliss, the sweetness of the flour tortilla complements the bitterness of the lettuce; the savory meat complements the acidic tomato perfectly. I eat the rice and beans on the side (per Nacho Libre).

Upon finishing my tacos I truly understand why the soft shell taco is a Lewisburg High School classic. My only complaint is that they are not served frequently enough.
