Generally Delicious

It’s that time again, the Lewisburg Area High School is serving a meal from my Tasty Twosome. The other being the soft taco; today being General Tso’s Chicken. General Tso’s Chicken is named for the esteemed and honorable Chinese general Zuo Zongtang. Zuo Zongtang was a fantastic general who believed that “the key to peace and stability lay in an educated, prosperous citizenry.” So it is fitting that General Tso’s chicken teaches us what good food is.

General Tso’s Chicken is a very popular meal. The lunch line is practically unending. I step into the back of the line, and the only solace I find is the knowledge that what I will soon taste is Ambrosia, the food and drink of the gods. Every lumbering step forward I take, I can feel the strength of General Tso pulling me closer. I trudge through the line, legs heavy with anticipation. I feel like a hero, walking up the hill to Mount Olympus, proudly returning home. Every step forward I take is one closer to the gods.

I finally reach the front of the line, and stand in the paramount hall that is the Lewisburg Area High School kitchen. The kind lunch server asks me if I want broccoli. “Of course, and thank you” I say. One can never thank those doing God’s work too much. I choose my sides carefully, and choose water as to not desecrate and dilute the exemplary taste of General Tso’s. I approach my seat with great anticipation. I take a seat.

With my fork in hand I begin to devour my meal. When eating it is important to remember to breath, a rule I sometimes neglect to follow. On my fork I have some delicious rice, some moist broccoli, and some sweet and spicy chicken. The immediate reaction of the food against my tongue is that of a hippy seeing a Prius. My eyes open, mouth waters, and my ears close, blocking out all noise, allowing me to enjoy the delectable food in the moment. Nothing beats the flavor sensation when General Tso’s Chicken collides with rice. I devour my meal, sating my hungers and my hopes.

This is truly a five-star meal. I have but two minor, measly, complaints. One, that the broccoli pushes the boundary between moist and soggy, and two that this meal, much like the delicious soft taco, is not served frequently enough.
