What is America? Is it a country? Is it a people? OR Is it a spirit?
I believe that it is the latter-est. And few things embody the American Spirit as much as the school’s Breakfast for Lunch. The moist yet crunchy French Toast sticks, delicious fluffy scrambled eggs, greasy well-seasoned home fries, and the star of the show: sausage.
I wait in the line, baited breath, anticipating the gastronomical fervor that is the school’s breakfast. Today I am earlier than usual, and thus get to witness first-hand the creation of this culinary masterpiece. They begin by putting the french toast on my plate, next comes the eggs, the homefry, and then that is all finally completed with the nirvana that is LAHS Sausage.
My part in this holy process arises when in the final step, I alone choose how much maple syrup I garnish my delectable meal with. Fortunately, the flavors of the foods are strong and function well together. I use the maple syrup as a sort of hallowed glue to bring together and drown all the woes of the world. It is in this meal that I first glimpse the possibility of world peace.
The School Breakfast has the power to change humanity; all we have to do is let it.
